Tel Aviv was stunned by a Hamas onslaught on the 7th of October. In the deadliest assault on Israel since the 1973 Yom Kippur war, heavily armed Hamas gunmen killed 1,300 Israelis and reportedly took 199 hostages. In retaliation, Israel pounded Gaza with airstrikes, an astonishing 1,000 bombs per day. 2750 Palestinians have lost their lives & thousands have been grievously wounded in these incessant airstrikes. US president Joe Biden was quick to vow unwavering support for Israel, with not even an appeal for restraint against Hamas. US secretary of state Antony Blinken and secretary of Defense Llyod Austin visited Israel in quick succession in a show of solidarity. In addition to this, Damascus and Aleppo airports were hit by a “burst of Israeli missiles”, white phosphorus was used in South Lebanon & aircraft carriers were deployed by U.S. and U.K. in east Mediterranean. A not so subtle warning has been issued to Israel’s enemies to not enter the conflict.
